'Advances in computer-aided engineering' contains a collection of articles describing on-going CAD/CAM research at several engineering facilities at Delft University of Technology. The two main themes covered in this book are:

Conceptual Design of Complex Products
The emphasis here is on optimization and evaluation of a design of complex products, such as airplanes, ships, and other mechanical products and systems, in a stage where the product is not yet fully detailed.

Product Modelling and Product Data Management
The emphasis here is on tools for the input, visualization and exchange of geometric and functional product representations, such as systems for interactive geometric modelling, feature modelling, fast prototyping, rendering, data visualization, engineering databases and product data exchange.
