Individuals with alexithymia have been described as having not only difficulty in expressing and differentiating emotions, but also as having characteristics similar to psychotic individuals. Alexithymia is also believed to cause psychosomatic disorders. However, this Ph.D. thesis argues that, in fact, alexithymia does not cause psychosomatic disorders, and is rather a result of psychological or bodily distress.
