This PhD thesis discusses a feasibility study on continuous countercurrent sorption equipment using mechanically transported open sorbent materials like fiber beds and open-cell foams. A pilot unit has been developed for removal of VOCs from water with elastomeric open sorbent materials, proving the technical feasibility of this new seperation technique. This thesis includes a design study and a techno-economic evaluation, based on industrial-scale waste water treatment using cellular silicone as sorbent material.
