Détente & Socialist Democracy
A Discussion with Roy Medvedev
By Edited by Ken Coates
163 pages, 5 1/8 x 8 3/4"
Dissent from official politics in Russia has produced a variety of different schools of thought. In the West, more is known about the opinions of such celebrities as Alexandr Solzhenitsyn (who has embraced a mystical doctrine which harks back to the values of old Russia) than is generally understood about the ideas of the majority of the less well known critics of arbitrary political rule. Besides those who wish to return to the standards of previous epochs, and those who advocate various forms of minority nationalism or religious belief, there is an important school of independent socialist thinkers.
