This text is a brief introduction to phylogeny and systematics of flowering plants at and above the family level. There are several good textbooks and handbooks dealing with the families of flowering plants, but there is not much written on the phylogenetic interrelationships above the family level.

This is mainly due to the difficulty of the subject; only recently is the phylogeny of flowering plants becoming disclosed in more detail, largely following the application of cladistic methods and the introduction of molecular sequence data. The system presented is that published by the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group in Botanical Journal of the Linean Society 2003 and in Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden 1998. The complete APG-system of orders and families of flowering plants is included here as an appendix.

Contents include: Introduction, Angiosperms, Monocots, Eudicots, Rosids, Asterids, References, Appendix: Classification of flowering plants, Index.
