Part I: In 1994 the Department of Orthopedagogy at the University of Groningen commemorated its 25th anniversary with a congress on the limits of orthopedagogy. This book, part one of two, concerns the contributions to the first day of the congress.
These contributions are theoretical and reflective elaborations of the theme. They begin with an introduction to and an elaboration of the theme of the congress. This is followed by a review of the clinical and scientific history of the Department. In the third chapter current issues concerning the limits of orthopedagogy are discussed.
The following chapters examine the limits of orthopedagogy in view of the object of treatment and research, methodological questions, diagnostic procedures, treatment, and ethics. The book is concluded by a cultural-philosophical review of the ways in which limits are dealt with within society as a whole.Part II: In 1994 the Department of Orthopedagogy at the University of Groningen commemorated its 25th anniversary with a congress on the limits of orthopedagogy. This book, part two of two, is concerned with current research projects, carried out by the Department, often in collaboration with external institutions for child- and youth care.
These contributions show how the limits of orthopedagogy are dealt with in the practice of research and treatment. The contributions are grouped according to the four fields of orthopedagogy: emotional or behavioral disorders, including severe delinquency; physical, sensorial, intellectual or multiple handicaps; learning disabilities; education and treatment with a special emphasis on motor abilities and motor development.
