The information present thus far in “Narrative Sources” already allows and facilitates the study of the sources as such, individually or collectively, qualitatively or quantitatively. This volume is, in fact, the result of a group effort in which the universities of Leuven and Ghent are sharing their expertise, and are also assisted by the Royal library and General Archives in Brussels.

The starting point of the project questionnaire is to determine how and to what extent medieval religious people paid attention to the world outside and how this attitude and mental scope were related to their life choice. This theme has been divided among four centres involved according to their areas of expertise: Leuven University, Ghent University, the Royal Library and the General Archives.
