The new data protection laws in the four Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden) are discussed by a leading expert from each country. The statutes implement the European Union directive 95/46 EC, but have all their specific national features. The national legal tradition of each country is described as the framework for the understanding of the rules. The challenges facing data protection in the future are also discussed. All in all, this book provides an insight to the status of privacy in this part of the world. The four authors professors of IT and law, teaching at the universities of Copenhagen, Oslo, Rovaniemi and Stockholm.
