Advanced Writing in English: A Guide for Dutch Authors was written to help Dutch students, scholars and professionals develop or improve their ability to communicate ideas and findings in written English within the prescribed forms of academic and professional writing. It was not our intention to develop a comprehensive guide either to writing or to the English language, but rather to provide intermediate and advanced users of English with material that would help them avoid the common problems inwriting papers, articles and reports in English. We have therefore chosen an approach which deal with relevant types of texts, addresses the specific structural problems of these types of text and addresses the specific linguistic and stylistic problems of the Dutch author writing in English.
