The present work arose from a conference of leading scientists in the field of ancient religions. Claims to divine revelation is not simply a general theme in ancient religious texts: they often determine the structure of these texts and the communities that produce them. The authors examine the literary and social functions of Revelation in Late Antiquity by rabbinic Judaism to early Islam, and thus contribute to the understanding of the phenomenon of revelation and of course the great transformations, interactions and tensions typical of the time.
