For the first time in the literature concerning the fly family Sarcophagidae, a taxonomic synthesis is provided of the subfamilies Sarcophaginae and Paramacronychiinae in the Near East, this being presented in a scientific way with the use of binominal nomenclature in full agreement with the rules of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature.

The monograph includes 82 species, of which 29 have been discovered in this area by the author. These species could be correctly identified based both on available determination keys and, above all, the original illustrations of the microscopic structures of the male genitalia.

In all cases their geographic distribution is given, often the descriptions being also accompanied by critical observations and taxonomic updates. This work is addressed to specialists in agricultural and forest entomology, biogeography and parasitology, as well as in human and veterinary medicine. It is also of general interest to students and teachers in the field of natural sciences.
