The authors of this collection of essays examine the understanding of Jesus in various early Christian writings. Some texts contact with the Presentation of Jesus in the Gospels of John and Mark, and apart in the letters to the Hebrews and the Epistles. Other early Christian literature, from the Infancy Gospel of Thomas to various apocryphal stories and liturgical prayer or other texts, is also represented, while some other texts deal with a range of ancient literature, both Christian and non Christian. The authors examine a variety of perspectives and methods, the manner with which the authors of the ancient texts were concerned with the significance of Jesus, as well as their sources, their interlocutors and critics.
