Asenath Petrie was born in London, and was the only daughter among the children of Rabbi Victor Schonfeld. Before her arrival to Jerusalem, Asenath Petrie's professional life was divided between Harvard Medical School, its associated hospitals and those affiliated with University of London. She worked at a London Military Hospital during World War I and assisted in the selection of volunteers who helped in the concentration camps immediately after their liberation from the Nazis. She was also involved in the care of children from Nazi-occupied Europe and related activities.
