Diseases of the biliary system, especially chole(docho)lithiasis, are very common. Over the last ten years they have been a predominant issue in all hospitals (Clinics of digestive, i.e. Abdominal Surgery) as well as in the surgical departments throughout the Macedonian Republic. In other words, if a surgical institution treats problems of digestive pathology, then almost half of its hospital beds account for biliary disease! Here, the incidence of cancer of the biliary system is not to be underestimated and it is considered to be a result of long-term untreated biliary calculosis. This puts our country on equal footing with more developed countries where the incidence of this pathology is concerned. These issues have permanently been the focus of the scientific endeavors, mostly of exact diagnostics and it could be said that this long-term diagnostic trend resulted in the introduction to most contemporary diagnostic methods, magnetic resonance cholangiography and three-dimensional fast (turbo) spin echo being the ultimate achievements at the moment! Thus, precise diagnosis, especially of biliary calculosis, is possible in almost a hundred percent of cases, not only elective, but urgent as well.
