Excavations were undertaken by the Vasilikos Valley Project at the Chalcolithic site of Kalavasos-Ayious close to the southern coast of Cyprus in 1978, 1979 and 1980. The site lies on the east side of the Vasilikos valley, ca. 500m. east of Tenta, on the top of a fairly flat-topped plateau. Preliminary soundings in 1978 indicated the presence of sizeable pits, similar to those excavated by Dikaios at Kalavasos-Kokkinoyia/Pamboules ca. 600m. SE of Ayious.
Since the whole of the central portion of the site was due to be destroyed by the construction of the new Nicosia-Limassol road, a full scale excavation of the site was undertaken in the latter half of 1979 continuing in 1980. Contents include: Introduction, The Site of Kalavasos-Ayious, The Excavations, Artifacts, Organic Remains, Interpretation of the Site and its Chronological and Cultural Setting, Summary of Conclusions.
