The intention of this interdisciplinary symposium is quite straightforward: to bring into confrontation three famous neuroscientists on a classic philosophical problem, the so-called brain-mind problem. This problem, which historically concerned the relation of body and soul, respectively of body and mind, now more specifically concerns the relation of brain and mind. Developments in various areas (the heterogeneous domain called cognitive science, the field of artificial intelligence, and in particular the spectacular progress in brain research made by the neurosciences) open new dimensions to this philosophical problem and provide bases for deeper insights and new questions.
