The ToM test-R is a standardized instrument to measure the Theory of Mind (ToM) of children between 4 and 12 years old. The test is especially designed for children suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorders, but can evidently be used for all children, having development problems . The ToM test-R measures 3 distinct levels:
The ToM test-R uses a stuctured interview, which consists of 14 items and collects information on the extent to which children have social understanding, social insight, and social sensitivity. The test takes about 20 minutes.
- precursors of ToM (make-believe, recognise the difference between the physical and mental world, emotion recognition);
- first manifestations of ToM (first order belief and false belief);
- highest level of ToM (second order belief or metacognition).
The set consists of a manual - with CD-ROM - and the workbook with the testplates in a storage case. The CD-ROM offers the scoresheet and the workbook in 5 other languages besides English: German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Arabic.
