This Ph.D. thesis aims to contribute to the development, validation and practical application of breath tests for measuring gastric emptying and orocaecal transit time in infants and children. The study of healthy subjects and patients has lead to a better understanding of the gastrointestinal physiology. The established reference values will serve to diagnose motility disturbances in the pediatric age group and design more adequate therapeutic modalities. Contents include: Introduction.
